El Lion's Park de Greensboro, Alabama, es un gran ejemplo de los resultados que se pueden conseguir combinando un diseño adecuado y una apuesta decidida por el reciclaje. Desde una cierta distancia, el conjunto parece una instalación industrial abandonada o un vertedero inusualmente limpio y ordenado. Pero al acercarnos, el conjunto de cientos de bidones de aceite forma un original parque de juego que incluye laberintos, zonas para esconderse, tubos de sonido de varios colores... Hasta las cubiertas que protegen de los rayos solares se ha realizado recurriendo a los barriles.
El proyecto ha sido realizado por Rural Studio, un estudio de
arquitectura ligado a la universidad de Auburn, que fomenta entre sus
alumnos las soluciones imaginativas y el uso de materiales autóctonos,
reciclados o no perecederos para recuperar el paisaje rural del estado
de Alabama. Y junto con la actividad física, aspiran a que sus parques
estimulen la imaginación, la creatividad y la estimulación sensorial de

Lion's
Park in Greensboro, Alabama, is a great example of the results that can be
achieved by combining a great design and a full commitment to recycling. From a
certain distance, the whole area looks like an abandoned industrial facility or
an unusually clean landfill. But upon a closer look, we see that the combination
of hundreds of oil drums forms an original playground that includes labyrinths,
hiding places, colorful sound pipes ... Even the roofing installed to protect
from the sun's rays has been made using the barrels.
The project has been carried out by Rural Studio, an architecture studio linked to the University of Auburn, which encourages imaginative solutions and the use of local, recycled or non-perishable materials to recover the rural landscape of the state of Alabama. And together with physical activity, they hope that their parks stimulate the imagination, creativity and sensory stimulation of children.
