BASURALEZA

Para los que no la conozcais, hoy queremos traer a este blog la iniciativa Libera, el proyecto lanzado por las ong SEO Birdlife y la empresa Ecoembes para luchar contra la plaga de la "Basuraleza". Algunos conocéis este término, y los que no, seguro que os imagináis su significado. La basuraleza es la expresión acuñada para señalar la presencia de residuos inorgánicos en el medio natural. Las bolsas de plástico en el océano, las latas y botellas abandonadas en el monte, los restos de todo tipo en las riberas de los ríos... El proyecto parte de un punto de partida contundente: la naturaleza está sucia, con restos que se acumulan y cuyo impacto sobre el medio ambiente no sabemos calcular. Algunas cifras, como la de las grandes islas de plástico que campan por los océanos, son relativamente conocidas; otras nos sorprenden de nuevo, como saber que se calcula que alrededor del 90% de las aves salvajes han ingerido plástico en algún momento de sus vidas.

Frente a esta situación, Libera propone campañas de concienciación y actividades coordinadas de voluntarios que limpian entornos concretos para recuperarlos y concienciar del problema de la basuraleza. Uno de sus lemas más conocidos es el de "1m2 por la naturaleza": si nos comprometemos a limpiar al menos un metro cuadrado de entorno natural en nuestro tiempo libre, estaremos contribuyendo a mejorar nuestro entorno. Un poco, hecho por muchos, puede marcar un gran avance. Desde As Salgueiras, una iniciativa que nació precisamente de la voluntad vecinal de recuperar un entorno deteriorado, queremos apoyar y respaldar esta iniciativa y recordar a todos que la lucha contra la basuraleza es uno de los retos medioambientales del siglo XXI.

For those who do not know, today we want to bring to this blog the Libera initiative, the project launched by the SEO Birdlife ngo and the company Ecoembes to fight against the plague of "basuraleza". Some know this term, and those that do not, you can imagine their meaning. "Basuraleza" is the expression coined to indicate the presence of inorganic waste in the natural environment. The plastic bags in the ocean, the cans and bottles abandoned in the mountains, the remains of all kinds on the banks of the rivers ... The project starts from a forceful starting point: nature is dirty, with remains that accumulate and whose impact on the environment we can not calculate. Some figures, such as that of the large plastic islands that roam the oceans, are relatively well known; others surprise us again, like knowing that it is estimated that around 90% of wild birds have ingested plastic at some point in their lives.

Faced with this situation, Libera proposes campaigns of awareness and coordinated activities of volunteers who clean concrete environments to recover them and raise awareness of the problem of trash. One of its best known slogans is "1m2 by nature": if we commit ourselves to clean at least one square meter of natural environment in our free time, we will be contributing to improve our environment. A little, done by many, can mark a breakthrough. From As Salgueiras, an initiative that was born precisely from the neighborhood's desire to recover a deteriorated environment, we want to support and support this initiative and remind everyone that the fight against "basuraleza" is one of the environmental challenges of the 21st century.
