¿CÓMO FUNCIONA FACEBOOK?

Es una prueba sencilla. Elijamos nuestra red social favorita: facebook, pinterest, instagram. Y preguntémonos si sabemos de verdad cómo funciona. No si sabemos utilizarla. Todos escribimos, subimos fotos, otorgamos likes o compartimos contenidos. Pero entendemos de verdad qué hace cualquiera de estos programas con nuestros datos; cómo los utiliza para generar beneficios; qué grado de control tenemos sobre nuestra privacidad. Y si la mayoría de nosotros reconocemos nuestro deficiente conocimiento digital, pensemos ahora en lo que ocurre con la mayoría de nuestros hijos, de los menores que a partir de los 10 años, a veces antes, acceden al uso de móviles y tabletas.

Esta es la pregunta sobre la que ha reflexionado Esther Wojcicki, periodista y pedagoga, en el espacio de aprendizaje "Aprendemos juntos", auspiciado por el BBVA. La autora norteamericana parte de la presencia masiva del móvil o la tableta en la sociedad actual. Y reflexiona sobre el modo en que nuestros hijos entran en contacto con los mismos. EL móvil se ha convertido en elemento de mal uso y abuso en ocasiones; en una suerte de niñera (sustituyendo a la televisión); y en un elemento de castigo (si te portas mal te quito el móvil). 

Frente a esta situación, Wojcicki nos pone frente a la necesidad de alfabetizar digitalmente a los menores. La importancia de enseñar a los niños cómo funciona Facebook; qué ocurre con las fotos que suben a internet; cómo usan las empresas sus datos para incitarlos a consumir desde edades muy tempranas. HOW DOES FACEBOOK WORK?

It is a simple test. Choose our favorite social network: facebook, pinterest, instagram. And let's ask ourselves if we really know how it works. Not if we know how to use it. We all write, upload photos, give likes or share content. But do we really understand what any of these programs do with our data; how they use them to generate profits; what degree of control we have over our privacy?. And if most of us recognize our deficient digital knowledge, let's now think about what happens with the majority of our children, who from 10 years old, sometimes earlier, access the use of mobile phones and tablets.

This is the question that Esther Wojcicki, journalist and pedagogue, has asked in the "Aprendemos juntos" learning space, sponsored by BBVA. The North American author talks about  the massive presence of the mobile or the tablet in the present society. And reflect on the way our children come into contact with them. The mobile phone has become an element of misuse and abuse at times; a sort of nanny (replacing television); and an element of punishment (if you misbehave I take your mobile out).

Wojcicki confronts us with the need to digitally alphabetize minors. The importance of teaching children how Facebook works; what happens with the photos that we upload to the internet; how companies use their data to encourage them to consume from a very early age.
